Spotlight on Swatpro Academy

Swatpro Academy, one of the South-West’s leading training providers in the catering and hospitality sector, is based in Exeter.

Formerly known as Academy4U, the name change indicated no less of a focus on a personal service, but a greater connect to the Swatpro brand – a network of recognised leaders in training provision.

With 20 years’ experience in this field, Swatpro Academy not only has the knowledge and skills to navigate in a specialist and changing training landscape but has considerably broadened its offer over the years. The team at the Academy know how important this sector is to the economy of the South-West.

Apprenticeships and other training schemes cover a wide spectrum, including government-recognised, industry approved courses in:

• Team Member to Supervisor to Management
• Commis Chef to Chef de Partie
• Food Production to Senior Production Chef
• Conference and Events
• Front of House to House Keeping
• Food & Beverage Service

• Alcoholic Beverage Service specialising in; Mixology, Wine or Cask Ales

Swatpro Academy also run shorter courses on food safety, health and safety, the BII Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders qualification aimed at those working in licensed premises, as well as courses in English and Maths skills.

The vast bulk of these training packages are undertaken at clients' workplaces, with flexible modules designed to suit learners and employers alike and impart the skills that are actually needed.

Del says: "Swatpro Academy was formed to meet the needs of employers providing a local service as an alternative to large national and college training provision.

"We pride ourselves in being knowledgeable and skilled in the fields we operate, but I think empathy with our employer clients is just as important, as is good communications, a flexible approach and having face-to-face contact."

"It very much helps our cause that we are local to the South-West and can give 100% support to clients, be they existing companies we have worked with for years, or new customers.

“We know about seasonal opportunities and challenges and we know about the local economy, so we can work with businesses large, small and micro to develop a personalised, flexible and responsive service."

It's an approach Del's clients seem to like. Often the feedback reflects that the company is adaptive, easy to work with and focused on clients’ needs.

It all adds to a 100% satisfaction rating from Swatpro Academy's employer clients:

"[Swatpro Academy] keeps me informed at every visit… really thorough training," said one client.

Learners are similarly impressed with 100% of Swatro Academy's trainees rating the training as good or very good, learners surveyed stated that quality of teaching and learning delivery was good or very good, and a similar number saying they would not have completed their course without the support they received.

All the learners surveyed said Swatpro Academy were very good at listening, and they likewise said they would recommend the company as a training provider to others.

But where does Del see the advantage of belonging to a region-wide network like Swatpro?

"Swatpro provides the best structure for the delivery of Apprenticeship training. It allows us to thrive as a small, specialist provider with the security and support that comes from a large organisation," he replies.

Swatpro Academy exemplifies what all Swatpro partners bring to learners and employers: Trusted, sector experts, offering objective advice and high-quality training that is both practical, responsive and employer friendly.

As an organisation, Swatpro pools resources and draws strengths from its partners' experiences. They are all regional leaders in their field, and Swatpro Academy's positive feedback shows in catering and hospitality training, they have no match.
